IGN - SXSW 07: Blind Gunman Back for More? - Rodriguez on revisiting the Once Upon a Time in Mexico character. While hosting the well-attended "Grindhouse 101" panel at this year's SXSQ Film Festival, genre guru Robert Rodriguez was a font of upcoming project information. Typically not one to hold secrets back, the filmmaker let loose on a potential franchise he's always thought abut - one that would focus on Johnny Depp's "Blind Gunman" character from the Once Upon a Time in Mexico. "I thought I could do two trilogies, but with only five movies because you could go El Mariachi, Desperado and Once Upon a Time in Mexico. But then Once Upon a Time in Mexico is the first one in a series with the Blind Gunman where you do two more sequels, which would be Once Upon a Time in Mexico 2 and 3," explained Rodriguez. "So I thought, 'That would be really cool if I could do that.' So I cut together a trailer of some footage I had of Johnny Depp walking blind one night while we were doing Once Upon a Time in Mexico. I had Johnny come down to the edit room and I said, 'Hey, check this out.' And I did the voiceover for it while he was walking and I added music, and I said, 'The man with no eyes is back. Once Upon a Time in Mexico Part Two!' And Johnny goes, 'I'm there!' And I just thought, 'Wow.' I don't know if I'll ever get around to doing that, but I think it would be cool. I have all kinds of adventures for him."

Scroll down to where you see the three side-by-side photos of Capt. Jack, Elizabeth and Will. Click on the Capt. Jack photo and you'll get four of the most gorgeous, sexiest Capt. Jack photos ever! What I want to know, though, is why only 4 photos of Capt. Jack while they have lots more photos of Elizabeth and Will???

This past Friday night (3/2/07) Access Hollywood had a one hour special which just replayed again tonight (3/4/07)at 11:30 pm. It was the Top 10 Yummiest Guy Candy and they counted down backwards from #10 to #1 "the sweetest treats out there." They also had quite a few Honorable Mentions for those who didn't make it to the Top 10. Johnny wasn't in the Top 10....BUT, just before they announced the #1 in the Top 10, they had a special category for Johnny who was the first ever inducted into the Access Hollywood Guy Candy Hall of Fame (or as they also called it, the Sexy Hall of Fame). They said, "Johnny, we've been lovin' you for 20 years!" They did a short tribute to Johnny's Guy Candy Hall of Fame-worthiness which included film clips from various premieres with women screaming his name on the red carpet, and mentioned how much he loves his fans. At one of the awards shows, they showed a film clip of Scarlett Johannsen being interviewed on the red carpet, and Johnny walked quickly behind her on his way down the red carpet toward the entrance to the venue. Scarlett saw him go by out of the corner of her eye and totally lost track of what she was saying to the interviewer. She gushed, "Oh my God! There goes Johnny Depp! Can you believe it??" Even other celebrities are in awe of him! They included some clips from several different interviews that Maria Menounos has done with Johnny where she is always so taken with him that she can't get her words out straight and always does that weird "machine gun rat-a-tat-tat" laugh that she has. She talked about Johnny being one of the nicest people you'll ever meet, and they showed him walking onto the interview set and making the rounds shaking hands with every single person in the crew before he greeted Maria and sat down with her. She interviewed him after POTC 1 and she showed up with some fake gold teeth in her mouth and smiled at him when he first sat down with her. The first time Maria laughed during the interview, it surprised Johnny and he told her the sound of her laugh made him think he'd just been shot with a machine gun. The second time she interviewed him (this time at the Toronto Film Festival), they were sitting on an old-fashioned- looking loveseat that was fairly small. Before the actual interview started, Johnny sat down and looked at the size of the loveseat and said, "We either need a smaller or a larger sofa." Maria said her vote would be for a smaller one (which would mean she'd get to sit very close to Johnny). He grinned at her and said, "How about some pillows...and a little cuddle?" His flirting got Maria all flustered again, and she nervously started laughing that weird laugh to which Johnny quickly pointed at her and laughed. He'd remembered her funny laugh from the first time they met.

Entertainment Times Online - Helena Bonham Carter interview. It must be tough to stop being a couple on set, I say. She rolls her eyes. “The problem is that we don’t stop. Tim sighs loudly. I say, ‘What? What? What am I doing wrong?’ Johnny looks away diplomatically, or starts dusting his razor overattentively. We’re both banned from discussing the film at home. It’s number one on the list of commandments I’ve written down.” Since they fell in love on Planet of the Apes, he has cast her in four films, including Big Fish and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. “After this, I wouldn’t work with him again,” she hoots, lying her socks off. Actually, her admiration for him seeps into every corner of our conversation, and, having spent 10 minutes with her, you can tell they are a good match: smart, alert and cackling with laughter at silly jokes. “Now I have Tim, Johnny and Billy all doing poo-poo jokes together. What a nightmare!”

If you've seen any of his "An Evening With..." DVDs, you'll know how much fun it can be to sit down in an audience and listen to "Clerks II" director Kevin Smith talk. In London this past week with his family - his daughter Harley is missing Johnny Depp's daughter Lily-Rose while he's in town working on "Sweeney Todd" so they arranged an international play-date - Smith took to the stage of the Prince Charles Cinema just off Leicester Square for two of his infamous four-hour Q&As.
'Todd' to sing in time for Christmas; Burton's musical set to open Dec. 21; DreamWorks will be singing in time for Christmas.
Paramount and DreamWorks will open Tim Burton's musical "Sweeney Todd" on Dec. 21 in a limited domestic run. Pic, starring Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter, goes wide in the U.S. on Jan. 11. DreamWorks and Warner Bros. Pictures are partners on the project, with Par/DreamWorks holding domestic rights. Warners will release everywhere else. Burton is lensing the bigscreen adaptation of the Stephen Sondheim musical at Pinewood Studios just outside London. John Logan penned the script. Sacha Baron Cohen, Alan Rickman, Laura Michelle Kelly and Jayne Wisener also star. Richard D. Zanuck, Walter Parkes, Laurie MacDonald and Logan are producing.
Chow Yun-fat interview, Johnny mentioned Q: Why has this been such a vivid adventure? Was making it different than all those other movies that you have done over the years? A: I think this is good timing and an opportunity for the audience to accept that I have moved to another stage of my life. I cannot carry the guns all the way like John Wayne. And I am only focused on my acting so I must make a move, make a change. Q: And you have enjoyed the pirate theme of the movie? A: Positive, positive! Very much, very much. Q: So what did you think of the first film when you saw it? A: It’s a very exciting movie — all the visual effects, the sound effects. I went wild when I first saw it. The character is very strong, plus Johnny Depp gives a good performance. He’s amazing. Q: This will introduce you to a whole new audience. Is that what you had in mind when you accepted this role?
A: Yes, I hope people will accept this character.

In Japan they had special postage stamps for DMC, and now will also have AWE postage stamps and AWE postcards available in June. See photos by taking this link.
A trailer for the upcoming documentary "A Night at the Agora" is now on YouTube. The documentary will depict the music scene in South Florida in the 80s at the time The Kids and other local groups were playing all the clubs and concert dates. I don't know when the DVD for the documentary will be available.
In the April 2007 issue of Vogue magazine, there's an article about an upcoming documentary on Marlon Brando to be aired on the TCM network (Turner Classic Movies). In the Vogue article describing the documentary, it says: His heirs - Robert Duvall, Al Pacino, John Travolta, Johnny Depp, Edward Norton, Sean Penn, John Turturro, the British actor James Fox - discuss his influences on them. So I went to TCM.com to find out when this documentary would be airing and it says it's a two-part original documentary simply called "BRANDO" and will premiere on May 1st and 2nd. However in the description on the TCM.com site, they also list a cast of actors who will appear in the documentary giving their thoughts on Brando, and Johnny is not one who is listed although he may be included in their blanket statement of "..and many others."
The documentary "Do It For Johnny" which was filmed over a period of almost two years as a group of friends tried to track down Johnny all over the U.S. to give him a script they had written which was encased in the back of a custom-made guitar they'd had made especially for him. They finally were able to give him the guitar when Johnny was in Aspen for HST's memorial service, but he told them he couldn't take their script - they'd have to send it to his agent.
The documentary will premiere on 3/30/07 and then play once more on 3/31/07 at the Vail Film Festival at the Crossroads Theater.
On several of the other Depp fan sites in their forums, members are reporting that Johnny and DMC have just won awards as follows: From the Netherlands: The Rembrandt Awards - Johnny was voted Best Actor - DMC was voted Best Movie and also Best DVD. It was explained that the Rembrandt Awards are similar to the Peoples Choice Awards in that they are voted on by the public. From Russia: For the third time, Johnny has been voted Best Foreign Actor at the George Melies Awards. DMC was voted Best Foreign Film. They said that a loud cheer went up from the audience when Johnny's name was announced as the winner. It was also reported on the DeppZone that Bill "Beano" Hanti from The Kids, who lives in Moscow and plays in a group called Kvadratband, accepted the award for Johnny and thanked everyone on Johnny's behalf. He said that he would be giving the award to Johnny within a month, so it seems as if the two had made plans to see each other again fairly soon after their gig in S. Florida.
Paul Marion, who is described as Lowell, MA's unofficial poet laureate, has just released his latest book titled "What is the City?" (Lowell, Massachusetts is the birthplace of Jack Kerouac.) It's a collection of Paul Marion's poetry, and also "incudes a first person account of Johnny Depp's visit to Lowell in 1991 when he famously bought Jack Kerouac's raincoat." Unfortunately, the article doesn't describe this encounter - we'd have to buy the book...or like me, wait until the public library gets a copy of it.
That's all for this month.
Bye for now.
