May/June 2006 #114
Sorry that I missed getting out a newsletter last month. I have gathered all the news for April and May so don't worry that you have missed anything. Reporters - If I made any mistakes, please let me know so I can correct it. Without further ado, here's the news: IN THE PRESS Kyoko - Johnny is on the cover of the following Japanese Magazines: April - Pia and Cut; May - Movie Star, TV Taro, Eyes Cream, Flix and Roadshow. goodlady - I found this in "Wide Screen" a german cinema magazine and tried to translate the most interesting part of the article: "What is the second part of POTC about? Of course, sweet Elizabeth Swann and cute Will Turner intend to get married. Of course also, their buddy Jack Sparrow thwarts them. Friend Jack has a problem, called Davey Jones. Looking like a medusa, he has octopus crakes as hair surrounding his head and he is the Captain of the misterious ghost ship "The Flying Dutchman". Davey has yet a bone to pick with Jack when earlier he had cursed his former drinking sidekick evily. His crew is formed of dubious beings who took on the shape of fish and fishbone like creatures during the many cursed years. And on top of all Will's father, old Bootstrap Bill shows up and adds to the difficulties of his son. But no matter what the plot may offer, all expectations rely once more solely on a single man anyway: Johnny Depp as the wacky, hard drinking show-off Jack Sparrow. With his performance, even rewarded with an Oscar nomination in POTC I - a remarkable honoration for a comedian role in a fantasy adventure - the whole team will stay or fall. This is known also by the director Gore Verbinsky. So he will make sure that also in this second part the biggest laughs will be on Jacks part.

Johnny in Premiere Mag June issue
***WARNING: SOME SPOILERS***
Here’s the article:****WARNING: SPOLERS*****
***WARNING SPOILERS*** Rolling Stone 1000th Issue This special issue just came out Friday. It has 3-D collage cover which is interesting. Johnny is on the far right about 1/2 down. He's wearing the straw type hat, looks to be from Kid's Choice Awards. Be sure to click on the picture to enlarge it and you can see him pretty clearly. Johnny is featured on p.213 of the mag, it's too big for me to scan. They have almost a 3/4 page of the cover Johnny did in Feb. 2005, plus an article. Here's a small quote from Albert Watson that did the shoot: "He's devilishly goodlooking," says Watson. "He just comes in. He's himself. He had a cowboy hat on, and he's easygoing. It didn't matter what he was wearing." "Depp is a great beauty. He does everything he can to break that beauty down a little bit. But everything he does just makes him more interesting-looking." The article also mentioned that "He(Johnny) didn't want a hairstylist or a makeup artist. Depp walked in the studio, chose a shirt and was ready to go. If you can find the mag, it's worth it for Johnny's part and all of the interesting covers they've done over the years. Teen People/June/July issue This mag with Ashlee Simpson on the front has a nice spread on DMC. Johnny's picture is on the cover in the top right hand corner(Mont Blanc). The mag has DMC as "The Most Anticipated Sequel." In May 2006 Premiere there is an interview with Ann Hathaway, here's the Johnny mention: In the interview, she's asked about working with such illustrious actresses such as Meryl Streep and Julie Andrews, then this question comes.) Who's left on your costar list? Johnny Depp! I need to work with Johnny Depp! I must! (laughs) I mean, I'm covering all my female idols, but I have yet to kind of approach the men..........
Reemi - New York Post - TERRY Zwigoff intreview - Q:Are there any stars you would want to work with? A:I recently got a call from my agent, who's also Johnny Depp's agent, saying that Johnny wanted to meet with me about something. I said, "I don't want to meet with Johnny Depp. I don't want to meet with any celebrities or movie stars, I don't like them in general." He said, "Oh, Johnny's a really nice guy, you're really gonna love him." I said, "Yeah, right. That's what you said about Sharon Stone." But I took the meeting, and I actually really did like him. There's something about him I just got a really good feeling about. He's a good actor. That's all I ask. Most movie stars are not. They have a certain charisma. People like to see the same thing over and over again - see Bruce Willis be Bruce Willis. Deppraved added - This is an online article about Terry Zwigoff discussing another project called "The Crumb" but if you scroll down to the bottom of the article, there's this paragraph: This must be what he was talking about in the first article posted where he said his agent told him Johnny wanted to meet with him about a project. Future Projects include a collaboration with Johnny Depp. And I'm writing - adapting a book for Johnny Depp called Happy Days, getting paid to turn this into a script and maybe direct it down the road. It's a French book by this guy, Laurent Graff. A strange little book that Johnny really liked and wanted me to meet him about it. And I went to this meeting feeling like I like the book. I didn't think I could do it justice. And he sort of talked me into writing it. I'm writing it with this guy - I'm co-writing it with a guy named Jerry Stahl, the guy who did Permanent Midnight. I'm trying to talk Johnny Depp out of me having to write the screenplay. I said, "I'd be interested in directing if you can get a screenplay that works. But I like the book, but I don't know if I'm the guy to adapt it." And he said, "Did you ever see this guy's writing, Jerry Stahl?" I said, "I know Jerry Stahl a little bit. I really like him. That's an inspired choice," Johnny roped him into this thing. So we're doing it together. It's sort of interesting.

Giant magazine, Maxim magazine, and OK magazine (US) have previews of all the summer films. Here are their previews for POTC: DMC. Giant - (Photo of Capt. Jack being chased by natives in the surf.) The first of two sequels to the 2003 megahit reunites Jack Sparrow (Depp) with dainty lovers Will and Elizabeth (Bloom and Knightley) as they try to repay Sparrow's debt to Davey Jones, captain of the famous ghost ship The Flying Dutchman. Betcha Didn't Know: Rolling Stones legend Keith Richards is rumored to make a cameo, which the studio will neither confirm nor deny. Johnny is mentioned and pictured in two different photo articles in the June 2006 issue of Cosmopolitan magazine. First, there's a small headshot of him on the front cover with the caption "Hot Pix of Hot Guys" underneath it. It's one of the photos where he's wearing the black suit and red open-necked shirt and his hair is longish and toussled when he was on the red carpet at the Golden Globes. The article inside is not really an article but a photo layout with a full page photo for each "hottie." It's called "Welcome to Hottiewood!" and says "This summer, a slew of scrumptious male celebs will be on your radar. Check out the six you'll be fantasizing about through fall - and why." The photo of Johnny that they used is from a couple years ago. It was from the ones taken during a professional photo shoot for the USA Today Weekend magazine where he's wearing the dark blue plaid long-sleeved shirt and the navy vest, he's got his facial hair and his hair is long. He's sitting on a dark blue chair or sofa, leaning forward with his arms resting on his knees and one hand is prominant in the photo showing his skull ring and the tattoo of the three small rectangles on his right pointer finger. The text box says: Johnny Depp - Film: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, July 7 - He speaks fluent French, which is tres hot. - Romance is his weakness - the classic Wuthering Heights is one of his favorite movies. "It's a real tear-jerker," he has confessed. - He's a man of few words, so you can do the talking! Further into the magazine, they have another full page called "Sweet and Low-Down" where they've got photos of five male celebs with their jeans riding down low and either no shirt or an open shirt. Obviously, all of them going commando. The photo of Johnny is one of the ones taken recently in the Caribbean when he was standing on the deck of the yacht soaking up the sun, shirtless, skull-print scarf wrapped around his head, lots of pendants, with his jeans hanging well below his hip bones and a couple inches of tan line showing...and that little strip of dark fuzz running from his navel downward disappearing into his jeans. (Aaahh! One of my favorite photos of all time!) The article says: "Leave it to Hollywood...five pairs of dangerously low-slung pants and not a love handle in sight." The caption beside Johnny's photo says: "Johnny Depp - Gotta love this pirate's treasure trail." Others included are Jared Leto, Lenny Kravitz, Enrique Iglesias and Colin Farrell.
The 5/22/06 issue of People magazine has one of the photos of Johnny at the Nice, France airport in their "Star Tracks" pages. The photo is of Johnny alone (they didn't print the corresponding photos that included Vanessa, her mother, an unidentified woman carrying Lily-Rose, and the kids). The caption with the photo says: In the June/July 2006 issue of Teen People magazine, there's a small headshot of Johnny in the upper right corner of the cover with the caption "Summer's best movies, tv and music." It's a headshot from the Mont Blanc anniversary party. On the inside, on page 76-77, there's a larger photo of Johnny as Capt. Jack with this text: Most Anticipated Sequel; Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest - Johnny Depp, Keira Knightly and Orlando Bloom return to the high seas in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, the sequel to the hit 2003 adventure flick. Look for plenty of action and special effects as Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny) dukes it out with an old foe over a long-owed debt. "We have big surprises in this movie," says producer Jerry Bruckheimer. "{Moviegoers} have gotten to know Jack Sparrow, and for the second movie Johnny Depp takes the character to new heights. There's so much more humor in {Pirates 2}. Johnny is an actor who always takes things even further and is better than he's {been} in the past." I wanted to type out the entire article about Johnny and his 2/10/05 Rolling Stone magazine cover (reported by herestoyou). It's on page 213 of this magazine, and on page 214 is an article about the late Hunter S. Thompson and his 3/24/05 cover. The article on Hunter briefly mentions Johnny at the end of it. (Ya gotta LOVE the title of the article about Johnny!) Depp Au Naturel; by Barbara O'Dair - Johnny Depp works on no one's clock but his own. "This cover story was months in the making," says Erik Hedegaard, who wrote the story in which Depp discussed love, rage and Willy Wonka. "Maybe once a week we'd get a call that Depp would see me now. I would begin packing my bags. I was going to Paris. I was going to New York. I was going to L.A. I was going lots of places that, an hour or two later, I learned that I wasn't going to after all." Still, Hedegaard adds, "This behavior is so much a part of the glory of Depp that it's hard to fault him for it." Rolling Stone film editor Peter Travers concurs: "He's somebody who disappears into the ozone and you don't know where he is, and then, at the last minute, he just shows up. Around the time of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, he stopped by the office. He just sat on the floor talking in his usual very quiet, charming way, and it was like he had all the time in the world." Albert Watson shot Depp for the cover in Los Angeles, after he received an Oscar nomination for his role in Finding Neverland. He didn't want a hairstylist or a makeup artist. Depp walked in the studio, chose a shirt and was ready to go. "He's devilishly good-looking," says Watson. "He just comes in. He's himself. He had a cowboy hat on, and he's easygoing. It didn't matter what he was wearing. "Depp is a great beauty. He does everything he can to break that beauty down a little bit. But everything he does just makes him more interesting looking." For the story, Hedegaard was supposed to meet Depp at the Dorchester Hotel in London. "I'm standing around," Hedegaard says. "No Depp. Finally, his assistant swings in the door to tell me that Depp had heard that the Dorchester was crawling with paparazzi today and would I join him elsewhere? Fifteen minutes later, I walked into the bar at Claridge's, and there he was, in his spread-collar shirt, with his hair swept back, looking infinitely relaxed, with his hand curved around a bottle of red wine. 'I took the liberty of ordering this for us,' he said. He began pouring and then lit up a smoke, and after that it really did seem like he had all the time in the world."
The May 12, 2006 issue of Entertainment Weekly magazine has an interesting feature article called "Are They Worth It?" There are photos of six actors and their typical salary per film: I just got my May, 2006 issue of Interview magazine, and was surprised and very excited to see that one of their interviews this month is Johnny interviewing Lili Taylor. Lili is the actress who played Faye Dunaway's daughter in Arizona Dream, and apparently she and Johnny have kept in touch all these years, and appear to have spent a lot of time together while filming the movie, and have seen each other since then. Entertainment Weekly, April 28 2006; Summer Movie Preview/JULY; JULY With Miami Vice, My Super Ex-Girlfriend, A Scanner Darkly, and Monster House Plus Bryce Dallas Howard is a Lady on the verge; Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest; STARRING Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley, Geoffrey Rush, Bill Nighy, Naomie Harris WRITTEN BY Ted Elliott, Terry Rossio DIRECTED BY Gore Verbinski - It's official: Pirates are the rock stars of the new millennium. "I'm sitting on a barge in the Caribbean," says Orlando Bloom, calling from the set. He's back to reprise his role as the hapless Will Turner, who teams up with his future bride (Knightley) to help the swaggering Capt. Jack Sparrow (Depp) fend off nemesis Davy Jones (Nighy) and his army of creepy undead soldiers. "We've all got trailers [out here] and we're filming in that transparent turquoise water. It's quite glamorous." - Even so, the globe-trotting back-to- back shoot of the two follow-ups to 2003's Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl has often felt more like a nerve- jangling plank walk for all involved. "The size and scope is enormously ambitious," says producer Jerry Bruckheimer, who decided to shoot a Pirates twofer to avoid future scheduling nightmares with his increasingly Oscar-nominated cast. Bruckheimer's airtight plan sprang a leak once hurricane season hit the Caribbean during production last fall. "I think every movie made is over budget and over schedule," Bruckheimer says. "This picture had some weather problems. We had to take a hiatus early. But you make compromises and get it done." - The filmmakers were dead set on amping up the realism, which meant more shooting on an actual boat docked just off the coast of the Bahamas. "Somehow I thought it would be on soundstages, [but] most of it was on the water," says Harris (also in this month's Miami Vice), who plays a voodoo priestess. "Loads of people got really sick. There were literally two people crawling on their hands and knees." But Bloom understood the necessity of the high jinks on the high seas. "It's frustrating for everybody at different times," he says. "But we're making a pirate movie, dude." (July 7) Deppraved - The two-page spread that starts the other article "July - Summer Movie Preview" has a giant photo of Capt. Jack on the beach with Elizabeth (maybe stranded on another island?). It's a photo from the film that I hadn't seen before this. Elizabeth has a tri-cornered hat and is wearing an outfit that looks similar to a man's - pants, vest, long-sleeved "fluffy" white shirt, huge rucksack hanging across her chest, and she's holding Capt.Jack's broken compass in an open position, and giving him a look as if she's frustrated or disgusted. Capt. Jack has a confused look on his face, staring at the broken compass, and he has a big wooden oar hoisted over one shoulder. Johnny's outfit looks pretty much the same as in the first film, but in this photo, all the rings he's wearing are more noticeable. He has at least three different large rings on the left hand, including one on his thumb that has blue stone in it that looks similar to turquoise. That hand has a piece of cloth cross-wrapped around the palm of the hand and across the back of the hand. The right hand also has three large rings, and on that one he wears a frayed glove with no fingers in it. The May 2006 issue of Maxim magazine has an interview with Mike Judge who is the creator of Beavis and Butt-Head, King of the Hill, and the movie Office Space. He's currently working on a new movie staring Luke Wilson called Idiocracy. The photo with the article is funny as it shows Mike Judge sitting up in bed. His blue sheets have King of the Hill characters on them, his yellow pajamas and a matching yellow cowboy hat have Hank from King of the Hill on them, the wallpaper behind the bed has Beavis and Butt-Head on it with narrow diagonal stripes that have Hank's face and his son's in them. There are two framed pictures on the wall of characters from King of the Hill. I always wondered what prompted Johnny to play the part of the yoga instructor on one episode of King of the Hill, and here's the answer from the interview: Interviewer: Johnny Depp played a yoga instructor on King of the Hill. Who knew he was a fan? Judge: I know Johnny Depp through a couple of songwriters in Austin. And he told me he wanted to play Beavis if I ever did a live-action Beavis and Butt-Head. Interviewer: Are you kidding? Who the h*ll would play Butt-Head? Judge: A couple of people emailed me pictures of a guy who escaped from prison in Kentucky that looked a lot like Butt-Head. Interviewer: So it's an escaped convict and Johnny Depp. Judge: Yeah, that's a good pairing. The April 24 issue of Us Weekly magazine has a color photo of Johnny and Vanessa sitting in chairs at the Mont Blanc event. Both are looking at the camera, Johnny's hair is completely covering the upper half of his face and eyes. Johnny's arm is around behind Vanessa resting on the back of her chair. She has her hands in her lap. The photo is on Page 19 which is the Table of Contents page for the issue. There are no other photos or mentions of them in the magazine. In the May 2006 Premiere mag there are some Johnny mentions and pics throughout. This mag has the Xmen people on the front. THe Ultimate Summer Movie Preview - (This article lists the hot summer movies for 2006 and of course POTC DMC is the first one. There is a nice large pic of Capt. Jack, almost 1/2 page looking at a small black chest) ***SPOILER ALERT****PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MAN'S CHEST - "Yes, the gold teeth are back in Johnny Depp's mouth," says producer Jerry Bruckheimer of this second installment of the $305 million-grossing Pirates, which is being shot at the same time as the third. Bloom and Knightley return as Will and Elizabeth, whose wedding plans run aground when they again become tangled up with Depps Jack Sparrow, who owes a blood debt to Scottish sea captain Davy Jones (Nighy). "My heart is kept in Davy Jones's locker, way down beneath the waves," says Nighy, who sports a claw arm, crab leg, and octopus beard for the part. To combat this supernatural foe, the adventurers seek the advie of a Gypsy queen (28 Days Later's Naomi Harris) who can bring people back to life and see the future. "I have dreadlocks and red eyes and rotten teeth and a huge corset and tribal markings on my face," Harris says. "Gore(Verbinski)was thinking originally that I would hold a monkey, but the people who looked after the monkey were a bit concerned that my outfit would freak it out too much." (And the latest on whether Keith Richards will hop aboard? We hear it's looking good for film number three; that he would play the man who taught Jack everything he knows; and that he'd be part of a brethren of pirate greats.) STARBOARD QUALITY: The H.M.S. Bounty, which was built for 1962's Mutiny on the Bounty with Marlon Brando, has been cast in Pirate's 2as a merchant ship called the Edinburgh Trader. THE BOTTOM LINE: $300 million. The photo that goes along with the article is another one that I haven't seen yet. Capt. Jack is standing in the midst of heavy island vegetation, and there's a closed treasure chest in front of him. He's gazing at it intently and has his hands up at the ready as if he's contemplating whether he should open it or not. Premiere is estimating the film will bring in $300 million while Entertainment Weekly predicted $200 million. I think Premiere has it much closer to the mark. They also have (on page 18) a game called "Six Degrees of Steven Spielberg" (played just like the typical Kevin Bacon game). It says: The director explored how enemies can have common ground in Munich. Now it's time to explore his interconnectedness. In six steps or less, link Premiere's recent cover subjects to Spielberg via their movie costars. (For examples, Owen Wilson was in Zoolander with Ben Stiller, who was in There's Something About Mary with Cameron Diaz, who was in Charlie's Angels with Drew Barrymore, who was in Spielberg's E.T.) Ten participants who email their answers to WinFreeStuff@hfmus.com will be selected at random to win Munich on DVD. Here are the six actors that you have to somehow link: Johnny Depp, Lindsay Lohan, Brandon Routh, Naomi Watts, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Charlize Theron. (Small photo of each appeared by their names in the article.) There's also a small bit about Tim Burton: Tim Burton has found a Mini-Me. When Burton took a look at 9,UCLA film student Shane Acker's short film about burlap rag dolls fighting off giant robotic insects in a post-apocalyptic hellscape, the director knew he had found a wonderfully warped protege at last. With Burton's backing, Acker is developing his Oscar-nominated 11-minute animated film as a full-length movie for Focus Features. "I was a hyperactive kid," Acker says. "My parents got me a drawing board, and I'd sit there drawing for hours and hours and hours." That's fine, as long as he doesn't run into Edward Scissorhands in the editing room. (Yeah for Tim! Helping along the career of an up-and-comer in animation!) In the May 2006 issue of Cosmopolitan magazine, there's a two page article which consists mostly of a background map of the U.S. with inset photos of celebs and the names of the places they live. Included is a photo of Johnny and Vanessa with the caption "Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis, Neuilly-Sur-Seine, France." It has a small map of Europe with an arrow pointing just north of Paris. I'm not sure where they got Neuilly-Sur-Seine, as I've never heard the name of that town associated with Johnny and Vanessa, and it's not even in the region of Provence or near St. Tropez. I've always read that they live in Plan de la Tour in Provence. The May 2006 issue of Glamour magazine had a small inset piece on page 32 called "Beauty Lessons from Men?" Under the title it says "We're so used to seeing guys in makeup these days that we're actually ready to take a grooming tip or two from them. Things these dudes got right:" Then they have four small photos: Johnny as Capt. Jack with the caption: Seductively smudged - Johnny Depp has sexy smoky eyes! OK magazine (US issue) had a feature story on celebs' "Then and Now" stories. They don't have one on Johnny, but they do have one on Jennifer Grey. They include a photo of her prior to her nose job, and then a photo of her after. The article talks about her early career, particularly in Dirty Dancing, which they say spawned a huge, loyal following. "Hanging out with her fiance, Johnny Depp, Jennifer was the hottest actress on the block." Also in OK magazine, there is a tiny paragraph about Helena Bonham Carter with an even tinier photo which says: Actress Helena Bonham Carter played Anne Boleyn opposite Ray Winstone's Henry VIII in a 2003 TV series on the famed king. Expect to see the actress in the upcoming films Sixty Six, Shantaram and Stand By Love. (I didn't know she is cast to be in Shantaram. Guessing that that's thanks to Johnny!) In the April 14 issue of Entertainment Weekly, their biggest feature in the issue is called "The Great American Pop Culture Quiz." They have 100 questions, mostly mulitple choice, all having to do with films and film characters. Question #60 is: In 2003's Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, what famous rock star did Oscar-nominated Johnny Depp model his rogue character after? No multiple choice answers are given for this question - probably because someone would have had to have been living under a big rock for the past few years not to know the answer to this! They included a photo of Johnny as Capt. Jack from the film. A while back, someone posted a scan of the front cover of the April 2006 issue of Total Film magazine which has Johnny as Capt. Jack on the front with a huge caption across the bottom saying "Jack's Back to Steal Summer in Pirates 2: Dead Man's Chest." Total Film is a UK magazine, and I was just able to buy it here in the U.S. this weekend, so I wanted to type the article here since it's a good one. I don't have a scanner, but the article covers 5 pages, one of them being a full page color photo of a close-up of Johnny's face as Capt. Jack. The other smaller photos on other pages are from the upcoming film. Bits and pieces of this article have been lifted and appeared in other publications on the Internet, but here's the entire article as written by Aubrey Ganguly just after he was present at the Disney extravaganza several months back when Disney spent all day at the Kodak Theater in a sumptuous big-budget event to promote all of their 2006 films. Johnny appeared as the "closing act" of the event, dressed as Captain Jack. WEBSITES Jen - The official site for PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MAN’S CHEST is now live! herestoyou - Mega Upload - If you're thirsting for something new on DMC, check the link below for new trailers that are appearing in Japan for the movie. ***HEAVY SPOILER ALERT*** If you really don't want to know what might happen in the movie, don't watch these. Even though they are in Japanese, the new footage left me more anxious for the movie than ever! You can hear some of the dialogue in places, but the film is amazing, especially the Johnny scenes. Again, quite a few spoilers, so don't check these out if you don't want to know. Thanks to Pierrot at Johnny Depp Reads for these fantastic clips: Enjoy!
Emma Video of Hunter Thompson and Johnny at the Viper Room at Hollywood Interrupted. From the News Observer - Author Nick Hornby article, Johnny mention His latest book, "A Long Way Down," falls far outside the lad-lit genre. It tells of the relationships that transpire among four people after they meet on the roof of a building to kill themselves on New Year's Eve in London. Just as with Hornby's previous books, a movie version of "Down" is already in the works. Johnny Depp bought the rights before the book's release. Johnny describes his relationship with Tim Burton in an article at The Guardian.
Reemi - Here's a new site for DMC at Out Now. Two new TV spots for DMC at The Movie Box. Johnny Depp pays a visit to Sherriff's Headquarters in Los Angeles, Ca. Photo at http://www.splashnews.com/newAssetRoot/thumbnails/00000000239/leda160506a_01.thw">Splash News. New trailor of DMC at Yahoo Movies. And new photos at Joblo. Fandango, the nation's largest online, phone and mobile movie ticketing service, is breaking out its first "Fandango Hot List", the result of a nationwide moviegoer poll which ranks the established ("The Bankables") and up-and-coming ("The Breakouts") stars most likely to draw fans to movie theaters this summer. Commandeering the top spot as the #1 Male Summer Bankable is Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest's Captain Jack Sparrow himself, Johnny Depp.
Deppraved - The Spring 2006 issue of Disney Adventures Comic Zone magazine is in the stores now and is titled "Collector's Issue." This is one of those small magazines that is usually found in the upper racks at the grocery store check-out. It's the size of a Reader's Digest or the size of the old version of TV Guide magazine. It's a kid's magazine filled with Disney comics and is $3.95 in the U.S. The cover is dominated by a photo of Johnny as Capt. Jack with a banner at the bottom that says "Exclusive! Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest Sneak Peek." I bought it, but was disappointed that there wasn't more about POTC II in it. On page 6-7 there's a photo that takes up both pages of Capt. Jack running in the surf with the island natives chasing him. At the bottom right corner of that, is an inset photo of Capt. Jack standing in the bow of a rowboat with other pirates riding in the back of the boat. There are empty "thought balloons" placed all over the page so that kids can write in whatever captions they think up that the various characters might be saying. The caption at the top of this is: Jack Attack! Get an early look at photos from Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest - then fill in the word and thought balloons to create your own swashbuckling story! On page 34, they have a comic strip feature called "The Pirate Files" with a cartoon version of Capt. Jack on the first page, cartoon versions of Elizabeth Swan and Will Turner on the second page, and a cartoon version of Davy Jones on the third page. The title caption of the article is: The Pirate Files; Look what washed ashore - a sneak peek at some secrets from the upcoming movie Pirates of the Caribeean: Dead Man's Chest! We also have some cool art of Captain Jack Sparrow and crew - exactly how they'll appear in our all-new Pirates comics, starting in the next Comic Zone! On the page with the cartoon of Capt. Jack it says: Captain Jack Sparrow; When we last saw Jack, he had narrowly escaped from Port Royal and sailed off into the Caribbean, with the Royal Navy in pursuit. The next time you see Jack, you'll find out he's in big trouble with Davy Jones - a mysterious figure who may be more monster than man! On the page with Elizabeth and Will: Elizabeth Swan; When we last saw Elizabeth, she had survived her first pirate adventure with a sinister crew of skeletal pirates! The next time you see her, she will be thrown in jail and be forced to travel the entire Caribbean to save Will Turner. Will Turner; When we last saw Will, he helped his partner in crime, Jack, escape from Port Royal. The next time you see him, he'll have to save his father, Bootstrap Bill Turner, who is trapped aboard Davy Jones' cursed ship, the Flying Dutchman! On the page with the cartoon of Davy Jones: Davy Jones; When we last say Davy...uh, we haven't seen him before! This next time you see him, this feared captain of the Flying Dutchman will settle a score with Jack. (And he has a pet creature called the Kraken to help him - a giant beast that can smash ships into nothing!) (The rest of the book is filled with cartoon strips of other Disney characters.) I'll have to watch for future issues, as it appears they're going to run a regular "Pirates" comic strip. If there are actual photos of Johnny as Capt. Jack, I'll buy them. If it's just the comic strip, I won't spend the money. The 2005 Walt Disney Annual Report's cover is Johnny as Capt. Jack and POTC. One financial analyst, Michelle Leder, of Footnoted.org said, "I'm looking at the 2005 Walt Disney annual report, a work of art with Johnny Depp and Pirates of the Caribbean on the cover...." If anyone is a JD collector like I am, and you want to order a free copy of the 2005 Disney annual report (or just see the cover on their site), here's how: Go to: Disney Corporate. You'll see the cover of the report which is basically the movie poster that's out in theater lobbies now. Over on the left side of the screen, click on "Order Financials" and then you'll have to complete a questionnaire with your mailing info and the reason for wanting the annual report. They have a dropdown menu to choose from including Current Investor, Prospective Investor, Student, College, etc. Just choose any of them... that's the last question, and they don't verify why you're asking for the report. Then they send you an email confirming that your report will be mailed within the next 5 days. jessica - Found these Johnny related buttons at Pins-BUttons. Mont Blanc 100th Anniversary
herestoyou - Getty images has pics of Johnny/Vanessa at the Mont Blanc 100th anniversary. Here's the link to the Getty images, you may need to type in Johnny's name in the Search section. Vanessa is wearing a lovely lavender cocktail dress, Johnny in blue, spats, longer hair. Several nice pics, I'm sure other news agencies will have some as well.

Emma found this - Mont Blanc 100 Year Celebration Video It's in German. This is my translation of the parts the speaker mentions Johnny: "For him everyone was waiting eagerly: the shy Hollywood mega-star Johnny Depp indeed did come. Together with his wife Vanessa Paradis he took the parade at ease. This man seems to have invented coolness himself....For everyone was something to be found that night. The most saught-after object though, because of seldom to be found, was Johnny Depp, about whom not only women are gushing. Thomas Heinze: "Honestly the most impressive about Johnny Depp for me is: Without doubt he is an excellent actor - a very impressing one. With his films you can always say: I'm gonna watch it, because it will be an interesting film for certain." Therefore everyone was glad to even catch only a glimpse of the glamour pair. TELEVISION
herestoyou - I just caught the last 1/2 hour of this show on E! last night. They were counting down the 25 sexiest movie stars. By the time I tuned in, they were already on #10. I had a sneaking suspicion Johnny would be in the top group and sure enough, he was #2! This must be a fairly recent show as they had video clips of Johnny at the CATCF premiere and some pics from the GG this year. (#1 was Angelina Jolie) This show airs again several times so check your guides or the E! website. Johnny is on in the last 10 minutes of the hour program. Fit TV aired a program on Friday, 4/14 called Celebrity Fitness. In my area it's showing at 6pm and again at 9pm. I believe this is the episode that originally aired around POTC #1. The info. just says "Johnny Depp learns sword fighting" which I know came out when POTC #1 opened. There are other people that are on the show, also
Deppraved - Next Sunday, June 4, E! is showing a two hour special at 8:00 pm EST called "Stranded with a Star" where viewers can vote on who they would most like to be stranded on a desert island with. The previews don't say if you vote online or by phone or how, and I haven't checked the E!online.com website yet to see if there's anything there about it. In the commercial promo, they flip through celeb photos (both men and women), and Johnny's photo from the Golden Globe awards red carpet (black suit, red shirt) is one of the photos shown. Last night on The Daily 10, they did a segment on celebrities who don't live in Hollywood and asked "Hollywood's where the money is so why are so many celebrities high-tailin' it out of town?" They listed all the celebs who live in U.S. cities other than L.A., and then began the "ex-pat" mentions with Johnny living in France. Later in the evening, they had a one hour show called "25 Sexiest Celebrity Hook-Ups" which was basically sexy celebrity couples. Unfortunately, I didn't have my videotape ready, but they'll probably replay it at some point. Johnny and Vanessa were #5 and appeared about 45 minutes into the show. They showed still photos and red carpet clips of them with all the various "celebrity" commentators talking about how Vanessa has tamed Johnny's bad boy ways, one person said that Johnny no longer trashes hotel rooms and dates supermodels, another said that Vanessa just happened to get him at a very good time in his life when he had matured and was ready for a long term relationship, and that if she had gotten him 10 years earlier, they wouldn't have stayed together because he wasn't ready to settle down at that time. There were comments about how gorgeous they look together, how Vanessa is such a tiny wisp of a woman but full of confidence, one person referred to Vanessa as being the "Madonna/whore" typical French beauty that so many men love, beautiful and sexy but all sweetness, etc. Personally, I get tired of people always talking about Johnny's past saying that he trashed hotel rooms as if he did it regularly (he did it once); and that he dated supermodels (he dated one). His first three girlfriends were actresses, then came Kate (the supermodel), and then Vanessa, who was a model (not a supermodel), singer and actress. The Daily 10 celebrity gossip show on E! had a quick segment about funny or unusual names that celebrities have been reported to use when checking into hotels. The last person mentioned was Johnny using the name of Mr. Satan. The girl reporting the story said, "Do you think he's always calling down to the front desk and asking them to turn up the heat?" Tonight (5/5/06) on The Daily 10 (the new entertainment news show that follows E! News each night), they showed a new photo of Johnny at the Nice, France airport. He was walking toward the photographer and it's a full frontal view of him by himself, dressed very casually for travel with a plaid long sleeved shirt tied around his waist and an orange-ish t-shirt with a jacket over the top. His hair is getting long again (makes me very happy!!). It was a beautiful picture, and I was hoping someone had found it someplace on the Internet and had posted it here. I'm sure it won't be long until someone finds it! Reemi found one of the photos at People Magazine.
OTHER STUFF But why is the rum gone - They just announced on ET that the new What's Eating Gilbert Grape DVD is coming out June 20th, with behind the scene extra's!! DeppAmirer - Vanessa was selected number 21 on E's Sexiest Rock Stars. I was watching E last night while I was reading and was I delighted to hear her name. They showed some clips of Johnny and her nothing new. The one at the GG's where he says she is wearing him I just love that. I just love them both. Emma - Love Letters to the South, a photographic tribute to victims of Hurricane Katrina alongside personal messages of hope and healing from celebrities. With contributions from Kevin Bacon, Johnny Depp and others. Book is published in August 2006. zoinky1967 - Private Resort will be out on DVD on June 27.
Deppraved - I watched the very first Survivor series, but haven't watched it since, so I don't know who this woman is, but there's an interview with her in People.com. Her name is Courtney Marit, 31, and she's the 10th contestant kicked off Survivor: Panama - Exile Island. She has a very unusual job - she's a fire dancer with a company called Revolve Productions. I haven't seen her performance, but I'm guessing she dances while she's twirling and throwing/catching fire torches. Anyway, she did her thing for Johnny. Here's that part of the interview: Question: You fire-danced for Johnny Depp once, didn't you? Courtney: I was in Antigua and heard Johnny Depp was down island and I was like, "Oh my gosh, I have to do a fire show for Johnny Depp!" I flew down to St. Vincent, where they were shooting Pirates of the Caribbean. He loved it and he was very cool, a very real spirit. Someone who posted on Gawker.com says they spotted Johnny in New York City on April 12, 2006 near 36-98 Union Square East. April 12, 2006 at 1:00 pm Just saw Johnny Depp walking through Union Square Park. Looking like a beautiful gypsy hobo pirate with lots of rings, necklaces and bracelets! Wearing ripped jeans, brown leather jacket, floppy newsboy hat. Very cool guy! From the Louisville, KY Courier-Journal: BuzzBack: Dream Derby Date - In this week's poll, I asked which native Kentucky celeb you'd most like to have as your Derby guest. Of the 291 votes, 31.6% would dig hanging out with Johnny Depp; 28.9% prefer George Clooney; 26.1% chose Ashely Judd; 10% said Diane Sawyer; and - surprise, surprise - only 3.4% would opt to get cozy with Tom Cruise. Asian Times International - "The survey conducted on 4,000 people revealed that men would most prefer to swap lives with hunks such as David Beckham, Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp."
Reemi - From Prnewswire - Male Celebrity You Wish Would Show More Skin - 1. Johnny Depp; 2. Jamie Foxx; 3. Patrick Dempsey Private Resort Prances Home June 27th - The early Johnny Depp teen sex comedy skimps home! May 21, 2006 - On June 27, 2006, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release Private Resort on DVD. Starring mega-star Johnny Depp and Rob Morrow as two teenage boys that are on the prowl for some good lovin' on vacation at the beach, but everything seems to get in the way of their mission objective! From the Telegraph - Fill my shoes - Keith Richards doesn't even injure himself in conventional ways. Currently recovering from brain surgery after falling out of a coconut tree in Fiji, the Rolling Stone takes eccentricity to a perilous degree. But I hear of one fetish he can safely indulge in: the guitarist likes to get his friend Johnny Depp to wear in his shoes before putting them on himself. "Johnny idolises Keith," Robert Cary-Williams, who is designing Richards's wardrobe for the Stones' forthcoming tour, tells me at the Chinawhite Magic Show. "Everyone knows Depp modelled his character in Pirates of the Caribbean on Keith, so he's happy to oblige. The thing with Keith is that he doesn't like things to be too new or obvious. Sometimes you have to leave clothes about the place for him to find, as opposed to just offering them to him." M&M have POTC II theme bags with Captain Jack on the wrappers at CBS 4. In the June 2006 "For Me" magazine, there's an interview with 26-year-old actress Laura Prepon from "That '70s Show." Here's one of the questions she was asked along with her answer. Question: Who leaves you tongue-tied? Laura: Usually, rock stars, but I have always been in love with Johnny Depp. If I saw him, I'd probably fall over! TERRY Zwigoff intreview, Johnny mentioned Q:Are there any stars you would want to work with? The Tivo top 25 - TiVo Top 25 WishList Actor rankings for the week ending April 23. Johnny Depp From the Toronto Sun - Anais Granofsky..."Johnny Depp and I are developing a film about Chicago Black Panther Fred Hampton over at Focus and I'm reading scripts both for acting and directing." From Radiosargam - Jackie Shroff does a Johnny Depp - Always the reliable performer, Jackie Shroff, has decided to go for the Johnny Depp look in his forthcominh horror comedy Bhoot Unkle. Jackie looks very similiar to Johnny's Captain Sparrow character from Pirates Of The Carribbean. Which is odd as he is supposed to be playing a ghost and not a pirate. Has Jackie lost his marbles in his old age? Joblo - In case you haven't been paying attention, Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley will be back swashbuckling and getting into a whole heap of trouble in the sequel PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MAN'S CHEST in just about three months - July 7th. Further, the ante is most definitely upped this time around as Depp's Jack Sparrow gets into a nasty tussle with the most terrifying pirate of them all - the apparently squid-faced Davey Jones (played by Bill Nighy). And if that wasn't enough, he has to contend with Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) possibly coming back and attempting to lay the smack down on poor Jack. It should be a bumpy but adventure-filled ride. So bring lotion. Before that, however, check out these new pics the folks over at "Out Now" recently received. Click through for the rest and the full high res versions of the ones below. On a related note, "Action Figures" has posted a contest where you can win some choice figures from the toy line created for the film by "Zizzle". Today we've got a special treat for all ye Pirate of the Caribbean fans out there. A friend of a friend of the IGN family spotted the soon-to-be-famous vessel from part two of the series, Dead Man's Chest, which releases on July 7th worldwide. The boat is currently housed in Lucaya in the Grand Bahama Islands. We believe this is the Flying Dutchman, captained by the legendary Davy Jones. These are some pretty cool, high-res pics that show the intricate details of the ship from just about every angle. There are nine pics in toll, so click on either of the two pics below to get to the gallery. According to JobLo - What's Eating Gilbert Grape will be released on DVD June 20th. People Magazine Spotlights GMCH and Terminally Ill Children. Last October, a People magazine article about George Mark Children's House, featuring Caitlin Dologhan, a 19-year-old patient at the House, introduced the unique facility to more than 40 million readers. The feature triggered an outpouring of support and donations. Caitlin also received personal phone calls from Johnny Depp and lead-singer of Evanesence, Amy Leigh. Caitlin lost her battle with bone cancer on January 12, 2006, but not before touching the hearts of everyone at the House, and millions more. Madonna's Children Design Handbags For Charity - Madonna's children Rocco and Lourdes have decorated handbags for fashion house Celine that will be auctioned off for charity next month. The fashion company asked 19 celebrity offspring including the children of Emmanuelle Beart and Audrey Marnay, to customise its canvas Poulbot bag. The proceeds from the sale will go to actress/singer Vanessa Paradis' charity Reves, which helps sick children realise their dreams. Paradis' children with actor Johnny Depp, Jack and Lily-Rose, have also designed bags for the cause. The French fashion house sent the necessary design tools, from felt-tip pens to feathers to the children to help with their projects. Madonna's daughter nine-year-old daughter Lourdes covered her bag with red lips, while her five-year-old son Rocco sketched colourful drawings of small animals on his bag. The bags will be auctioned off at a dinner at the Hotel Bristol in Paris, France, on 30 May (06). New PSP game for POTC II. The Libertine on DVD June 27th - Related News : Drama Movie News, DVD / TV News: Genius Products will be releasing director Laurence Dunmore's gripping and powerful drama "The Libertine", which stars Johnny Depp (Charlie and the Chocoalate Factory, Pirates of the Caribbean 2 & 3), John Malkovich (Colour Me Kubrik, Being John Malkovich) and Rosamund Pike (Doom, Pride and Predjudice) onto DVD June 27th. No further news is available at this time. Stay tuned, we will bring you the latest details as soon as they arrive. Adapted by Stephen Jeffreys from his own play, this is based on the true story of John Wilmot, the Earl of Rochester, who was a poet, courtier and notorious rake. Johnny Depp stars in "The Libertine" as the scandalously decadent John Wilmot, the second Earl of Rochester. The film follows the Earl's adventures in London, from his passionate romance with a young actress, Elizabeth Barry (Samantha Morton), to the writing of a scurrilous play which blisteringly and bawdily lampoons the very monarch who commissioned it, Charles II (John Malkovich), leading to the Earl's banishment and eventual downfall. Words of Windham Small news of local interest; Reformer.com: JACK SPARROW HAS NOT LANDED: Rumors have been flying in town about an impending home sale. Some whispers mention Johnny Depp's name and others have heard that a mysterious businessman from New York City might be looking for a retreat, a place to relax and wind down. The home on Bunker Road started its life as a ranch house, and just driving by, that's what it appears to be. But after additions, people who have seen the home close up have called it everything from "The Plastic House" to a garish Taj Mahal. A few weeks ago, rumor was an unidentified party had placed a large sum of money to secure the approximately $2 million home for a right to first refusal. But a few nights ago, word was the offer was withdrawn. Town officials, who have stayed mum on the subject, confirmed the down payment had been withdrawn, but would not say if they even knew who placed the offer. Still no word from Depp's publicist if he was the one actually looking at the house, which one town official said was "ridiculous" considering Depp's jet-set, Hollywood lifestyle. "Why would he want to come to Dummerston?" asked the man. JOHNNYDEPPFAN.COM UPDATES
