UK ITV Breakfast show - GMTV August 2003

Very short report about POTC and some short interviews with Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley and Jack Davenport interspersed with clips.

Interviewer: If there's one blockbuster summer movie to see, it's POTC. And to be honest I was as surprised that I loved it, as much as Johnny Depp was to be offered it.

Johnny Depp: Well initially, when they came to me, it was more like… I kinda sat there stunned, you know like, maybe they took a wrong turn, you know, and like ended up with me instead of some other guy, you know, or maybe there was like a fluke misspelling, Í don't know.

Interviewer: I kinda got watching it, that Keith Richards influenced the character somewhat.

Johnny Depp: I think he is the greatest, coolest rock and roll star ever, that's ever been, ever, you know. So I approached it, I approached the idea of Keith, not in any sense of imitation, or umm, character study, but more like, yeah, inspiration.

(Clips from POTC)

Brief interview with Keira Knightley saying it was a wonderful film to be in. Brief interview with Jack Davenport saying that he was giggling to himself the whole time during the film. Brief interview with Orlando Bloom, in which he admits that acting with Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt and Viggo Mortensen has not been good for his ego - he's good-looking but "can't compete" with those three actors.

Clip of POTC Premiere with Orlando Bloom signing autographs for the crowd and separately Johnny Depp in brown suit and hat and sunglasses stopping to sign an autograph for a little girl. Voice over: … and Orlando might not have much farther to reach for the title of Hollywood's most eligible heart throb, because these days Johnny Depp is delighted at his new role as family man.

Interviewer: I've noticed a trend that when actors become fathers, they start taking on pictures that perhaps they might not ordinarily do. Is that the case with you?

Johnny Depp: I think it's a pretty natural, err, transition, you know, I mean, it's like any sort of stumblebum, you know, when he has a little boy, suddenly becomes an expert in baseball (laughs).
