Johnny Depp: A Modern RebelWhile there were plenty of pictures (mostly black and white), the focus of this book was the story. It is not your traditional fan magazine geared to the pre-teen set. It is a well written, in-depth book which is geared to adults.
This was not just a dull reporting of facts but of the feelings and opinions of people who have worked with Depp. A significant portion of the book is devoted to the people who have surrounded him. There were many touching comments from Depp and Ryder about their relationship. In fact, there was a lot of information in general about his life away from the camera. As you might imagine, there were many quotes from Depp, but Robb also added his own interesting observations. The book did not go into as much detail about Donnie Brasco and The Brave since the book was published in 1996 and that is the year they premiered. It does, however, talk about the Divine Rapture movie that Depp was to star in but was cancelled part way through filiming because of finances. It is one of the few references to even mention this movie. I really enjoyed this book and felt it gave the clearest portrait of Johnny Depp (during the time frame it covers) of any reference I have read.
